Business Environment
The Asturian Business environment is formed by more than 70.000 companies that cover the practical entirety of the productive sectors. Asturias conserves a long industrial tradition, inheritance of its history of a region of mining and steel.
The industry associated to metal leads its business environment, with 51% of the total volume of business, a very superior value to the national average and transforms Asturias into one of the main iron and steel centers of Europe. In second place is the sector of energy, representing approximately 17% of the total volume of business. In third place is the agricultural industry, with more than 12% of the total.
In Asturias industrial and agricultural traditional sectors cohabit with numerous new managerial projects developed fundamentally during the last decade, related with undertaking of high technological content applied to the TIC (Technologies of the Information and Communication), chemical, plastic, automobil, capital goods and other sectors.
The strong enterprise expansion, led mainly by the small and medium company, has channelled the economic growth of the region to new areas of activity in which the most modern technologies and the opening to the exterior have an essential role . A significant fact that endorses this expansion is the excellent regional infrastructures of telecommunication, Asturias exceeds by 15% the rest of the national territory regarding the use of the broad band.
In this way, Asturias is the first community of Spain with respect to the usage of the cable as the means of connection.
